Welcome

Hello

Les Hutton here. I'm the person behind the Yorkshire-Visitors-Guide.com web site. I'd like to warmly welcome you to the August issue of Yorkshire Allsorts - my free monthly e-zine.

If you've joined us this month then an extra special welcome - hope you enjoy the web site.

This month we've again been out and about researching and shooting some great photos for the Yorkshire Visitors Guide.

One of the weekends in July found me in and around Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast where the weather was a bit varied, but I was lucky to get a few good photos.

We spent the first Sunday of August at beautiful Fountains Abbey - a wonderful location owned by the National Trust. The day was quite hot and sunny and we arrived home rather tired but well satisfied with the day.

I really want you to enjoy reading Yorkshire Allsorts and I hope you find something - an idea or thought, perhaps - to take away from each issue.

Warm regards

Les

Whats new on Yorkshire Visitors Guide?

The day in Whitby was really to attend a photographic workshop with John Potter, a really good landscape photographer. Although the morning looked like being a wash out the weather forecast promised an improving day. As it turned out the forecast was quite right and by about lunchtime the sun was breaking through and we had some blue in the sky. I know Whitby from many visits in the past and I think it is my favourite of all the Yorkshire seaside resorts. It went down well with the consumer magazine "Which? Holiday" last year because they awarded it "Best Seaside Resort 2006" ...

This photo was taken in Saltwick Bay - just round the corner from Whitby Abbey. Other photos and my article about Whitby is here ... Visit Whitby

Look out for the new page about Fountains Abbey - From the austere, simple desires of a twelfth-century splinter group of Benedictine monks rose Fountains Abbey - a Cistercian abbey destined to become one of the richest in Europe. Down through the centuries ... Full article here

I'm gradually working my way through all the articles adding some links to practicle web sites that I think may help with the planning of your visit to Yorkshire. Things such as street plans and weather details, bus and train timetables and prices. Hope they prove useful!
