Public Transport from Slaithwaite
You have a few options if you need or want to cut short your Colne Valley walk in Slaithwaite.
Bus :
Frequent buses run along Manchester Road. For these, if you’re walking from Marsden you need to turn right onto Britannia Road from the canal towpath – from Milnsbridge to the left. Follow the road up the hill bearing left until you’re on Manchester Road, near to the Star Inn. Buses to Milnsbridge and Huddersfield pass the pub on this side of the road. Buses to Marsden and Oldham pass along the other side – there’s a shelter on both sides. This can be a busy road so please take care – especially if you have kiddies with you!
Train
Trains run between Huddersfield and Manchester about every hour and from Slaithwaite you can catch one for either Marsden or Huddersfield. If walking from Marsden, turn left onto Britannia Road – from Milnsbridge to the right. Cross the mini-roundabout and up Station Road. This climbs and curves around to the right with a little side road off to either side. Turn left into Crimble Bank. The platform for Marsden and beyond is up the ramp to the left - before the bridge. You'll need to walk under the bridge, to the right and part way up the hill on the right for the Huddersfield train.
Taxi
A third option is to take a taxi back to your start point - probably a good and economical alternative with a small family. Slawit and Golcar Cars run a small office on Market Place. If walking from Marsden, turn left onto Britannia Road – from Milnsbridge to the right. You'll find the taxi office across to the left from the Commercial Hotel.
