Les Hutton here. I'm the person behind the web site. I'd like to warmly welcome you to the December issue of Yorkshire Allsorts - my free monthly e-zine.

If you've just joined us this month then an extra special welcome - hope you enjoy the web site and this complimentary newsletter.

This month has been a month for hibernating rather than being out and about with the camera - Yes, I guess I'm a fair weather photographer at heart! Yorkshire straddles 54 degrees north, so winter is fast approaching. This puts us on a similar latitude to, for example, Labrador in Canada. Luckily for the UK and us Yorkshire Tykes, we benefit from the relatively warm waters of the North Atlantic Gulf Stream - but it's still pretty cold at this time of year! It's been a time of tweaking a few of the pages and plotting future development for Yorkshire Visitors Guide.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
At this time of year our thoughts turn to Christmas and the festive season. I want to wish everyone a merry, peaceful Christmas and hope we can all look forward to a brighter and prosperous New Year in 2008.

I really want you to enjoy reading Yorkshire Allsorts and I hope you find something - an idea or thought, perhaps - to take away from each issue.

Warm regards

Whats new on Yorkshire Visitors Guide?

Yorkshire people and places are always in the news. Trying to keep abreast of what's happening can be difficult and time consuming. I've come across a little tool that should make it easier. I've put a news widget on the web site - to deliver timely news as it applies to Yorkshire. I hope you find it useful. You'll find it at Yorkshire in the News. This is also a place for visitors to write about their local news or to comment about news stories.

By its very nature, news is always changing and may happen anytime, anyplace, anywhere. You may be on the spot when something happens. Perhaps you have a happy, heartwarming, newsy story that really should be shared - we all could use a smile now and then!. If you have news to contribute click here to find an easy way to get in touch.

Whenever I'm planning a visit - an adventure - to somewhere new, I always like to gather together a few books to help me get a feel for the place. Perhaps find a pointer to a special building or park - known only to someone with local knowledge. Alongside a few books that I've personally reviewed I've put together a selection of books, maps and dvds that I think you might find both interesting and useful. They are arranged in a store within a store - the well-known Amazon. You can browse these and buy, in a secure environment, knowing that they represent great value for money and you'll be helping support the Yorkshire Visitors Guide. You'll find a link to 'Yorkshire Visitors Guide - Shop at Amazon' on the Books about Yorkshire page. I hope you'll take a look around and hopefully find something of interest.
